This is such a good introductory course. My parents didn't teach me anything about nutrition, whole foods, etc and I don't remember much from my past health classes so I feel like this has been a great starting point for me and my family. I plan to upgrade to a higher level course when I am done.

I did the self study for this as a tester to see what I thought and I couldn't have been happier. I learned so much that I can't wait to get started on the family herbalist course.

1. Germ v Terrain Theory
Our introductory unit provides a solid foundation in natural wellness philosophy that is necessary for all holistic care. This unit covers the popular germ theory, including its origins, prevailing thoughts and flaws, contrasting it with the more proactive terrain theory, which focuses on health and prevention.

2. Holistic Nutrition
Learn how food affects our health in a real and measurable way during this unit. With a focus on real, unprocessed food, this unit includes both foundational info on healthy eating, plus additional study about food debates and the scientific understanding of the role of diet in healing.

3. Botanical Medicine Safety
The most important aspect of any wellness program is to establish the safe and effective use of any remedy that is being studied. This unit covers the essential elements of safety when using natural remedies and supplements, including information about contraindications, interactions, and how to dose little ones in your family.

4. Herbal Home Use
Phytotherapy treatment measures in the home are dramatically different then conventional measures. This unit covers important elements to botanical family care such as diagnostic skills, recording and interpreting illness progression, evaluating health history, symptomology, detoxification, fasting, flushing and evaluating medicine chest staples.

5. Herbology
This unit introduces the field of pharmacognosy and includes a medica materia. Many herbal actions are also included. It is a condensed version of the expanded herbalism units in our advanced courses, designed to help our students implement these principles right away.

6. Essentials of Aromatherapy
This unit is similar in layout to the herbology unit, but focuses on aromatherapy. It provides a solid foundation into the study of aromatherapy, with a medica materia for essential oils. Topics also include history, practice and purchasing guidelines.

7. Natural Preparations
Creating homemade preparations saves money, enables you to develop a formula specific to your needs, and is a fun and enjoyable hobby! This unit covers the basics of homemade natural preparations and includes over 2 dozen handouts with formulas for herbal remedies, aromatherapeutic preparations and household supplies.

**During this program, you'll also study over 150 individual foods with an emphasis on nutritional healing.**
